The city of Benaras, called Varanasi today, is considered to be the oldest city in the world as per the puranas. Built on the banks of river Ganges, this was a place often visited by the heavenly gods in the golden era.
The Flying Gods of Benaras, a traditional form of art, brings to life this deep rooted belief through beautiful figurines of mythological characters. Each wooden doll, a god or a goddess riding its Vahan or a travel companion, is an assembly of different parts, carved out of teak wood and then hand painted in great details with bright vegetable colours to give its final form.
A cluster of these celestial figures - Shiva, Vishu, Brahma, Durga, Kali, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Narasimha, Ganesha, Hanuman and others - make for a unique collection of art and can turn a home into a heavenly place.Material: Handmade in wood and hand-painted by artisans of Varanasi
Care Instructions :Dry cloth wipe only.Do not soak.
Variation and irregularities in the design are part of the handmade process and are part of the beauty and charm of the handmade story
